Digital identities are everywhere: Whether you manage your online bank account or enroll into digital services of your government. Using those and other applications in a secure way requires trustworthy authentication standards.

The Cyberagentur has identified the following issues as particularly important. Participants will be able to discuss these during the partnering event:

• Biometrics:
  Behavioral Biometrics:
  This method collects data that allows user authentication based on their behavior (e.g., gait, keyboard strokes, mouse movement, brain activity). We are especially interested in a technical implementation of a novel form of continuous authentication. 
  Stimulus-induced Biometrics:
  This form of biometric authentication uses a variable stimulus (e.g. a photo or a sound) that results in a specific bodily reaction (e.g., gaze, brain activity, bone resonance). The resulting stimulus-reaction pair serves as an authentication key.
  Universal Patterns:
  This refers to biometric methods in which the body's reaction is the same across users (e.g. ERP, gaze). The result is a universal pattern that can be used for authentication.
  
  
• Cryptography:
  

  Cryptographic security must also be provided for each of the three biometric procedures. The aim is to ensure that the biometric procedures for behavioral and stimulus-induced biometrics meet all requirements for biometric template protection. In the area of universal patterns, we call for the elaboration and investigation of specific requirements and attack scenarios. All developments must also be secure with regard to migration to post-quantum cryptography.

• Usability & Social Embedding: 
  

  In the area of behavioral biometrics, we would like to focus on usability and social acceptance of the authentication procedures. When using continuous biometric procedures, additional methods should be developed to ensure that the population's trust in the technology and any existing fears can be reduced. At the same time, the process must be simple and intuitive to use. User interfaces and design principles should be used and developed to promote usability.
