Corporate partner with an information booth in Dresden – Panel on September 23 on resilient research and research security
The Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) will participate as a corporate partner in the INFORMATIK FESTIVAL 2026 at TU Dresden from September 22 to 25, 2026. The event will focus on discussions about cybersecurity and digital sovereignty, as well as a panel on research security on September 23.
The Cyberagentur will have an information booth at Dresden University of Technology during the INFORMATIK FESTIVAL 2026, organized by the German Informatics Society (GI), from September 22 to 25. There, the Cyberagentur will present its research mission and current areas of focus and seek professional dialogue with representatives from academia, industry, politics, and the computer science community.
With its Dresden project office, the Cyberagentur already has a permanent presence in Dresden, a hub for technology and science. The office strengthens connections with universities, research institutions, technology companies, and other stakeholders in the regional innovation ecosystem. With its high concentration of research, microelectronics, information and communication technologies, and technology-focused companies, Dresden offers a significant environment for dialogue on future key technologies and cybersecurity. Participation in the INFORMATIK FESTIVAL builds directly on this presence and networking efforts.
The focus is on technologies and research questions that could have a long-term impact on Germany’s cybersecurity and digital sovereignty. These include, among others, cryptology, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, resilient IT systems, secure communication, and trustworthy digital infrastructures. At the booth, visitors can discuss technological developments, potential new threat scenarios, and future requirements for secure digital systems with experts from the Cyberagentur. Of particular interest is the integration of the Cyberagentur’s Dresden project office into Dresden’s technology ecosystem.
The Cyberagentur will be hosting a special session on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Under the title “Science under threat! What does resilient research look like?”, Research Director Prof. Dr. Christian Hummert will discuss the topic together with Nils Droste, Head of the Division for Research Security and Investment Review at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), and Sakine Weikert, Director of the Center of Excellence for International Scientific Cooperation (KIWi) at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The panel will be moderated by journalist Marcel Roth.
The discussion begins with the changing landscape of scientific work. Geopolitical tensions, cyberattacks, attempts to exert influence, and technological dependencies can directly affect research institutions, research data, and international collaborations. The panel will therefore explore how scientific openness can be preserved while effectively protecting sensitive information, technologies, and infrastructure.
“Research thrives on openness, exchange, and international cooperation. Today, however, this openness requires a robust security foundation. We must identify risks early, protect sensitive research data, and understand strategic dependencies without unnecessarily restricting scientific freedom. Research security is therefore a prerequisite for ensuring that science remains capable of acting even under changing geopolitical and technological conditions,” explains Prof. Dr. Christian Hummert, Research Director at the Cyberagentur.
For the Cyberagentur, research security is closely linked to the question of how Germany can ensure its technological capacity to act in the long term. The agency funds ambitious research programs focused on technologies with high innovation potential and long-term relevance to security policy. In doing so, it considers not only existing cyber threats but, in particular, technological developments whose impacts on security and society cannot yet be fully anticipated.
The INFORMATIK FESTIVAL is the annual conference of the German Informatics Society and will take place for the 56th time in 2026. Under the theme “Digital Resilience,” the event brings together experts from academia, business, politics, and society. Workshops, presentations, and panel discussions will address the question of how digital systems, infrastructures, and organizations can be made more resilient to crises, attacks, and technological dependencies.
